Year 13 student, Matthew Dickinson, competed for this year’s ARTiculation Prize which took place virtually with different schools across the country competing.
Matthew reached the regional heats speaking to the Courthauld Institute of Art, London, via video link about his connection to the British engineering masterpiece, Concorde.
He started his presentation by recognising that Concorde is a part of British identity and followed up with how Concorde is viewed to him.
He continued to tell the audience how his Grandad was an engineer who helped construct the iconic aircraft and how he came to be apart of the engineering team through his service to his country. After Matthew’s Grandad passed away during the COVID-19 pandemic, Matthew uses Concorde to keep the memory of his Grandad alive.
Matthew unfortunately didn’t win the award but his mentors and teachers are proud of his delivery and courage to talk about a topic so close to his heart.
