We are delighted that our lead school, Cheadle Hulme High School has been crowned Secondary School of the Year 2018 at the Manchester Evening News School Awards. This is a huge testament to the hard work by all our students, their families and of course our wonderful dedicated staff.
The awards, now in their fifth year, were open to all primary, secondary and independent schools across Greater Manchester’s 10 boroughs.
Supported by the Manchester Evening News and Manchester College, the awards recognise the inspiring achievements of children, teachers and schools. There was a record number of nominations in 2018, with CHHS taking home one of the ceremony’s highest accolades.
Headteacher Linda Magrath, said: “It was a very proud moment collecting the trophy with colleagues and students.
“In many ways, that what makes this award so special. Our success is not down to a single individual or a small team, it recognises the collective efforts of all of our staff, students and leaders. This really is a team award.”
Over the last 12 months, Cheadle Hulme High School has been named in the top 3% of schools nationally for the progress that students make. The Good Schools Guide has recognised CHHS as the top fully comprehensive non-denominational state secondary school in the North West and last Summer’s GCSE results saw 40% of all exams graded at a 7/A or above.
Mrs Magrath was keen to stress that the school’s success was down to more than just data and results.
“Strong academic outcomes is not about exam preparation, it is about helping all out students develop a love for learning and ensuring that they become positive role models in their community.
“That is why we are just as proud of how our students excel on the stage, on the sports field and in our clubs and societies. We are driven to provide young people with the best possible start in life. At the heart of this is our belief that for so many years there hasn’t been a level playing field for students who are educated in the state sector. As Cheadle Hulme High School shows, that ‘norm’ can be challenged.”
The Manchester College sponsored the glittering awards ceremony, which took place on Friday, July 6 at the Hilton Deansgate in Manchester.
